Your privacy is our chief concern. We adhere to two general policies to protect the privacy of our users:

  1. We do not collect any information that specifically identifies an individual: user's name, address, date of birth, telephone number, Social Security Number, or any other public information. Encrypted emails and passwords are retained only with user permission.
  2. We do not sell, rent, or barter exchanges of any user data, anonymized or otherwise, that could identify any user. We adhere to this strict policy by insisting that only aggregate summary data is visible to those outside Traitwise. For example, a user might see a graph that shows that 3% of Traitwise users have diabetes, but we would never release information that would suggest which specific users are diabetic, not even in so-called "anonymized" form.

The Traitwise Beta3 release is a Beta version and has not yet passed a thorough third-party security review. Until those procedures are in place, personal information you provide may be vulnerable to malicious attack. Please see our Terms of Service for details.

Detailed Privacy Policy

Traitwise works with patient privacy rights advocates, bioethicists, and data security firms to guarantee that the information we collect from survey questions stays secret and secure.

Use of the Information

Traitwise uses the information it collects to:

  1. Apply analytical algorithms that may reveal patterns of interest to users. For users who opt in, a user's Facebook ID or a user's email address will be used to contact users. We will not use contact information to send spam or share the information with any third parties.
  2. Assemble an understanding of our users' demographics in broad terms in order to provide information and experiences of interest.

User Control of Information

Users can choose to delete their Traitwise accounts at any time. By default, the user's answers to questions will then be assigned to a random ID number. The user can also choose for answers to be deleted completely.

Traitwise users accessing Traitwise applications via Facebook can choose to uninstall Traitwise applications at any time. However, doing so will not automatically delete the association between the user's Facebook ID and the answers the user has given to questions. Traitwise will fulfill any request to delete the user's Facebook ID and answers; users can make such requests using the Contact link at the bottom of the Facebook application page.

Traitwise does not offer any mechanism for one user to share responses to questions with one or more other users.

Traitwise does not have an interface by which users can view a summary of their answers to questions.

Transfer of Control

In the event that Traitwise or any of its assets is acquired by another company, user information may be among the assets considered for transfer. In that event, Traitwise will contact users to offer options for managing information if the new company's privacy policies differs materially from those described here.

For users accessing our application via, Traitwise may use a temporary session cookie to recognize that answers given during multiple sessions are associated with a single user. This allows users not to answer the same questions again and again, and it allows Traitwise to show results and patterns that are more relevant to the individual user. Answers to questions are stored on Traitwise servers not on your local machine.

Users may delete session cookies at any time. Each browser includes a mechanism for doing so.

Traitwise does not use Flash cookies (also known as Local Shared Objects). Maintained by the Adobe Flash plug-in on behalf of Flash applications, Flash cookies are embedded in web pages and stored outside of users' control, allowing Flash applications to track user activity.

Other Collected Information

Traitwise automatically records data sent by browsers including date and time information, IP address, cookie information, browser type, and browser language. This information allows Traitwise to analyze trends and analyze problems with its servers. Only Traitwise employees have access to this data.

Legal Action

Traitwise makes every effort to protect your answers to questions and to preserve your privacy. However, when required by law, we may disclose personal information if we have a good-faith conviction that the action is required for compliance with a legal process or to protect the safety, property, and rights of our users and employees. We attempt to limit any impact of such legal action on our users by collecting as little personally identifying information as possible.

Age Restriction

Traitwise is not intended for use by anyone under 14 years of age. We do not intend to collect any information from such individuals.

Acceptance of Terms

By using Traitwise, you indicate your acceptance of this Privacy Policy. Please do not use Traitwise if you do not agree with the policies laid out above. Continuing to use Traitwise following the posting of any changes to these policies will also indicate that you accept those changes.
